Our Urban Forest Speaker Series, Part 2

Treasured Trees: Growing a Green Heritage.
Peterborough Public Library, March 5th, 7-9PM

How can we protect our “Green Giants” while encouraging young trees to become tomorrow’s treasures?

Bruce McGauley, R.P.F., M.Sc. London, ON, will explore the role of heritage tree programs in a healthy urban forest. Bruce will teach us how to care for our urban forest as it matures, and how to recognize the legacy that big trees provide.

Our guest speaker is conveniently from the "Forest City". As the Urban Forester for the City of London, Bruce spearheaded the first GIS-linked city tree inventory in Canada (2001-2002), and implemented the first street tree carving initiative as a component of the city's heritage tree program. As head forester for the City of Winsdor, Bruce implemented the Treasured Tree program and developed the city's tree nursery for local seed propagation. He was the Provincial Forest Pathologist for MNR, Maple ON, and has served as President of the International Society of Arboriculture '92 - '93. In his retirement, Bruce operates his own forestry consulting business, and promotes wood working and carving as an accomplished wood sculptor.

Bruce will join our follow-up panel discussion to explore the topic with Barb Boysen, Forest Gene Conservation Association, Ian Attridge, Kawartha Heritage Conservancy, and the audience.

The evening is sponsored by the Kawartha Heritage Conservancy, and is taking place at the Peterborough Public Library, 345 Aylmer Street, downstairs auditorium, March 5th, 7 to 9PM.
